چکیده

Since its founding, NASA has been dedicated to the advancement of aeronautics and space science. The NASA Scientiic and Technical Information STI Program OOce play s a k ey part in helping NASA maintain this important role. The NASA STI Program OOce is operated by Langley Research Center, the lead center for NASA's scientiic and technical information. The NASA STI Program OOce provides access to the NASA STI Database, the largest collection of aeronautical and space science STI in the world. The Program OOce is also NASA's institutional mechanism for disseminating the results of its research and development activities. These results are published by NASA in the NASA STI Report Series, which includes the following report types: TECHNICAL PUBLICATION. Reports of completed research or a major signiicant phase of research that present the results of NASA programs and include extensive data or theoretical analysis. Includes compilations of signiicant scientiic and technical data and information deemed to be of continuing reference value. NASA counterpart and peer-reviewed formal professional papers, but having less stringent limitations on manuscript length and extent of graphic presentations. TECHNICAL MEMORANDUM. Scientiic and technical ndings that are preliminary or of specialized interest, e.g., quick release reports, working papers, and bibliographies that contain minimal annotation. Does not contain extensive analysis. CONTRACTOR REPORT. Scientiic and technical ndings by NASA-sponsored contractors and grantees. CONFERENCE PUBLICATION. Collected papers from scientiic and technical conferences, symposia, seminars, or other meetings sponsored or co-sponsored by NASA. SPECIAL PUBLICATION. Scientiic, technical, or historical information from NASA programs, projects, and missions, often concerned with subjects having substantial public interest. TECHNICAL TRANSLATION. English-language translations of foreign scientiic and technical material pertinent t o NASA's mission. Specialized services that complement the STI Program OOce's diverse ooerings include creating custom thesauri, building customized databases, organizing and publishing research results.. . even providing videos. This paper presents a novel parameterization approach for complex shapes suitable f o r a m ultidisciplinary design optimization application. The approach consists of two basic concepts: 1 parameterizing the shape perturbations rather than the geometry itself and 2 performing the shape deformation by means of the soft objects animation algorithms used in computer graphics. Because the formulation presented in this paper is independent of grid topology, w e can treat computational uid dynamics and nite element grids in a similar manner. The proposed approach is simple, compact, and eecient. Also, the analytical sensitivity derivatives are easily …

Multidisciplinary aerodynamic-structural shape optimization using deformation (MASSOUD)

This paper presents a multidisciplinary shape parameterization approach. The approach consists of two basic concepts: (1) parameterizing the shape perturbations rather than the geometry itself and (2) performing the shape deformation by means of the soft object animation algorithms used in computer graphics. Because the formulation presented in this paper is independent of grid topology, we can...

The Effects of Shape Parameterization on the Efficiency of Evolutionary Design Optimization for Viscous Transonic Airfoils

The effect of airfoil shape parameterization on optimum design and its influence on the convergence of the evolutionary optimization process is presented. Three popular airfoil parametric methods including PARSEC, Sobieczky and B-Spline (Bezier curve) are studied and their efficiency and results are compared with those of a new method. The new method takes into consideration the characteristics...

Para-Graph: Graph-Based Parameterization of Triangle Meshes with Arbitrary Genus

This paper describes a novel approach to the parameterization of triangle meshes representing 2-manifolds with an arbitrary genus. A topology-based decomposition of the shape is computed and used to segment the shape into primitives, which define a chart decomposition of the mesh. Then, each chart is parameterized using an extension of the barycentric coordinates method. The charts are all 0-ge...

Aerodynamic Shape Optmization Based on Free-form Deformation

This paper presents a free-form deformation technique suitable for aerodynamic shape optimization. Because the proposed technique is independent of grid topology, we can treat structured and unstructured computational fluid dynamics grids in the same manner. The proposed technique is an alternative shape parameterization technique to trivariate volume technique. It retains the flexibility and f...
